Profile

I commenced my current PhD in October 2009. The research I am involved in contributes to both the GEMOC ARC National Key Centre and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Core to Crust Fluid System (CCFS). My PhD Research “Fluid processes in the deep mantle: Geochemical studies of diamonds and related minerals” aims to contribute significantly to understanding diamond forming processes, which are related to major mantle processes and mantle composition and help to understand the geological evolution of our Planet.

Credentials and Awards

BSc (Hons) and MSc (Hons) Geology, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Russia; iMQRES PhD Scholarship (2009); medal of Russian Academy of Science in “Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Mining Sciences” (2010).

 Research Interests

  • Minerology
  • Geochemistry
  • Geoeconomics
  • Exploration
  • Gemology
  • Diamond Geology

My research looks at diamond geology from a variety of different aspects. These include understanding diamond forming processes in the inner part of Earth (mantle conditions), volcanic processes, diamond exploration as well as the operation of the diamond market. During my scientific and industrial projects I have worked to understand how the diamond industry works in it's entirety: from the mystery of diamond formation to the complex behaviour of diamond market.

My research interests focus on the study of diamonds and coexisting silicates. During my study at MSU I concentrated on the morphology and inner structure of diamonds. My Bachelor Degree examined the nature of the green coloration in diamonds. I began to pay more attention to the geochemistry and diamond forming process in my Master’s Degree and this is now the focus of my PhD Project.

Techniques I have used include: CL spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, microprobe, MC-ICP-MS, goniometry, Electron-Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction, X-Ray tomography, Electron Spin Resonance (ESR), ion probe.
