Tittle: Multicomponent and Multiphase Reactive Flow in the Earth’s Mantle
The core of any computer simulation is the mathematical model to study the physical system of interest. Thus, the Earth’s mantle can be considered as a multi-phase, multi-component non-equilibrium system. I am working on a modified multiscale finite element method, coupled with a non-equilibrium thermodynamic formalism for flow simulations in heterogeneous and reactive porous media. This robust and generic numerical platform constitutes a conceptual framework directly applicable to understanding the complexity of the Earth’s Mantle. Moreover, this technique can be applied to model any processes where the difference in the spatial scales has an important role.
